Litzum

When our mission came down to deploy to Afghanistan, we knew that some mountain training was in order.  Europe has many places to choose from, but thankfully Chief new of a great place settled in the Austrian mountains, a military base in the area where they filmed “The Sound of Music” and was used to train some of the best mountaineers in the world.

Another experience that was so profound I dedicated an entire chapter to it in “Love Me When I’m Gone,” we spent several weeks getting some of the best pre-Afghanistan preparation we could ask for, training on high-angle shooting, mortars, ATV driving, driving trucks in the mountains and snow, climbing, and of course, culminating in a full-mission profile lasting several days.

Just out for a hike in the Austrian mountains at Litzum...kind of like The Sound of Music, but with guns, mortars and heavy rucksacks.
