Check out my appearance with Adam & James on their “Vets on Radio” show today. Adam and James are both combat veterans themselves, and we talked about my time in the military, basic training jokes, my book “Love Me When I’m Gone,” politics, military spending and USA Cares.
What Happened to Leading by Example?
I really try not to complain just to complain, but I feel that this media provides me the ability to have a sounding board to address issues which, for some reason or another, I feel qualified to talk about, and/or see that the mainstream media isn’t honestly or accurately covering a subject.
I was reminded of something today that I heard whispers and rumors about not too long ago, but seemed to die in the wind very quickly. Being that I haven’t been back to Afghanistan in about five years, but it looks like I may be back there very soon, this was an issue that for me, like many Americans, fell off the radar as it didn’t get much coverage.
The issue that has me all hot and bothered today is one that, when I really sit down and think about it, has many parallels into the bigger picture of how our country is being run, and by whom. The issue that I’d like to remind everyone about and discuss today is the fact that troops in Afghanistan are no longer receiving hot breakfast or midnight chow.
I’m going to address why this is a much more important issue than say, you missing lunch breakfast because you were in a rush, but I’d like to remind you of a few things to put this in context. In his time as President, Obama has now taken more vacations and played more rounds of golf that any former President to this point.
Congress and the Senate have made no cuts to their own pay or tax breaks (even while the Democratic politicians decry that large American CEO’s companies who pay millions in taxes aren’t paying their fair share, they haven’t made a single move to lean themselves). There are rumors that the Obama Africa vacation (not official business, but another vacation) will cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Way to tighten the belt while so many Americans are in financial straits and hard times Mr. President.
As much as the Left likes to decry and punish hard working industrialists and business owners, I know quite a few small business owners, and several who have turned their fledgling businesses into successful behemoths (which THEY built, not the government). Every one of these men I know who is now extremely successful is only that because they understand delayed gratification, and were able to follow the age old saying “if you can be a lean cat in fat times, you can be a fat cat in lean times.”
This means that when times got tough, they tightened their belts. When times were great, they didn’t loosen those belts very much. When the business was hurting, they took pay cuts before any of their workers, spent much more than 8 or 12 hours a day working, and paid for their success in blood, sweat and tears.
The old joke that all Republicans are businessmen, and all Democrats are lawyers seems to be singing quite true these days, and the fact that our country is being run by someone who’s never run anything before or had to face fiscal responsibility is showing in the way that Obama is treating the USA as a lawyer looking for padded billable hours, rather than a businessman trying to keep the ship afloat and maximize efficiency.
So even though we have the most lavishly spending President anyone can recount, a Congress and Senate who don’t pay taxes, can legally benefit from insider trading, and billions spent yearly on duplicate services because our government is “so transparent” that it doesn’t even know what its own branches are doing, we have to cut meals for our troops because we can’t afford to pay for it.
Bullshit. The media outlets I’ve found who have reported on this story have brushed aside the important aspects of these meals, and being that most of our blue-blood journalists and politicians no longer have military service under their belt (God forbid they actually give something back to this country), they don’t understand the severity of this issue.
The two meals which have been cut may seem like no big deal to someone who’s never been downrange, so let me explain to you why breakfast or midnight chow to a soldier in Afghanistan is MUCH different than the oatmeal or breakfast bar you eat on your way to work.
Most of us here, safely at home, stateside in the USA (or wherever you call home), have a relatively normal schedule. Even my busiest friends in the music industry like Mike Dawson or my movie producing friend Mike (man I know too many Mike’s) have at least a general time where they eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, hit the gym, talk to the family, etc.
When you’re downrange in a combat zone, all of that goes out the window for combat operators. The support and logistics soldiers have a little bit of normalcy and routine, but when your job is hunting bad guys, time is non-existent.
In Special Forces, we had a routine called “reverse cycle,” which plays a number of tricks on your mind and body, and was probably the toughest part of a deployment. You see, we are called “The Green Eyed Devils” because we typically do our hits (missions) in the dead of night, and the Taliban and Al Qaeda got to know us by our beards and “Green Eyes,” illuminated by our night vision goggles.
But after you put enough of a dent in a terrorist network by pulling bad guys out of beds in the middle of the night long enough, they, like all of nature adapt. To keep on top of them and never let them know what we were doing, we would go on “reverse cycle” as often as possible, switching from all night-time hits one week to all broad daylight the next. They all have to lie down sometime, and our goal was to get them while they were dreaming of their 72 virgins, goats, or wherever they spent their trips to la-la land. Doing this is highly effective, but means bed time will be 10pm one week, and 10am the next, hence the name “reverse cycle.” When your sleep schedule is reversed that drastically, imagine what happens to your eating schedule.
So now put that in context of the midnight meal that was typical on big bases which housed many Special Operations units who do these types of missions. When you’re in the middle of a heavy combat deployment, you really do not know which day might be your last, and you have to treat every single moment like that is the day. As such, every single meal that you eat could very well be your last; the last time you enjoy that creamy, chocolaty bite of ice cream, the salty, juicy and bloody bite of steak, or more importantly, the last time you break bread with your Brothers.
You see, this isn’t just some trivial treat, as the media and non-Veteran politicians would think and like you to believe. For many soldiers downrange, there is no such thing as 9-5. Special Forces, Infantry, Intel specialists, computer techs, gas pumpers….a base downrange is running 24 hours a day, which means there is a large group of people working around the clock.
When a non-Veteran politician or journalist looks at something like midnight chow, they think it must be some lavish luxury for fatties to stuff their faces with pizza and cookies if they can’t sleep. When a combat veteran looks at something like midnight chow, we remember just how good that omelet tasted, sitting around with your Brothers, trying to crack jokes, make light and forget that in an hour you’ll be on a helicopter, headed out to a dangerous mission which one or all of you may never come home from.
I still remember the first meal after the day I was blown up and shot; too high on morphine and fentanyl to have any appetite, still couldn’t feel the fingers on my left hand, any of my arm except the screaming pain every time I moved it, I just sat around the table with my Brothers, thanking God with every breath that I was still alive.
It wasn’t until they started poking fun at me for not eating (it’s a very well known fact amongst my friends just how much I love to eat) that I decided to go back and get a plate of food, which I devoured once my brain turned on from the constant buzz I was hearing and realized just how hungry I was. If it hadn’t been for that meal I may have never popped back out of the numbness that comes from the shock of being injured in combat, so yeah, I take meals in a combat zone pretty seriously.
There was a day when we used to cherish terms like “lead from the front” or “the buck stops here.” We are in an era where people see fit to elect politicians based on whose going to give them the most benefits for doing the least, rather than those who have proven themselves to be capable leaders and have stood up and defended this country by donning a uniform when it was time, and we are reaping what we sow.
Remember that politics and public relations are all a game and a play on words; when you have a politician or journalist with zero military experience trying to tell you what’s best for a soldier, don’t waste your time listening; find a veteran or an active soldier and ask them, the only people who seem to have the true picture and idea of life in a warzone.
I had this conversation with my friend Terry after we recorded the Far From Centered podcast last week, and I’m going to have to ask him back on to discuss this in further detail, because he’s a very intelligent Veteran who brings a lot of great insight and higher-order thought to discussions like these, but I’ll pose the introduction here.
As a Green Beret, I was taught and trained to look at “knock on effects” or “higher order effects” when thinking of the outcomes of a given situation. This means instead of looking at what reaction #1 will be to a given situation, to look at reaction #5-10, to figure out the long-term effects of our actions, rather than the short-term “low hanging fruit.”
In my current position, we utilize “LEAN management,” which teaches us to use the “5 Why’s,” which teaches those in leadership positions to never accept the first reason something goes wrong. For example: if an auto assembly line has oil spilled on the floor, as a manager you try to figure out why. The first reason: a line carrying hydraulic oil is leaking. If I stopped there, I’d never get to the root cause and actually fix the problem.
I get to Why #2: there’s a faulty seal in that line. If I stop there and just replace the seal without inquiring further, it’s only a band aid. Why #3: the company has been purchasing the cheapest seals we can find. Why #4: the person in purchasing has been given an order from higher to look at economy over quality. Why #5: management is only focusing on the bottom line, and not the final product.
I take all of these experiences in my life and use them to view the world; when I see things that don’t make sense to me, my mind starts going a million miles a second, trying to find both root cause and the higher order effects of what will happen from whatever is going on.
Adam Carolla has a great game he plays called “stupid or liar.” It’s a comedy bit, but has a lot of truth to how we should view people in charge and what they’re doing. His supposition is that people are either stupid or liars when they say things that don’t make any common sense from the outside perspective, and it’s right on.
Take President Obama; I have a lot of very conservative friends, and even though they are very intelligent, many like to immediately discount him and call him an idiot for the things he does and is doing. But can you really think that? He’s an extremely educated, intelligent and well-spoken individual, so I think we need to go to the other idea.
For all that Obama hasn’t done in his administration; he has been wildly efficient at one thing: setting the Republicans and Conservatives up like a chess master to do exactly what he wants, by making them look like incompetent fools, and their short-sightedness is allowing him to do it quite easily.
Take the last election; everyone knows that the demographics in this country have been changing rapidly over the last decade. Obama has possibly the whitest man in America as his VP, to the first ever American black President. Mitt Romney, possibly the second whitest man in America, didn’t even have Marco Rubio, a Republican shining star, anywhere on his short list. Was anyone paying attention in the RNC?
We look at the current 2nd Amendment battle that is raging, the fiscal cliff, Obamacare, and last but not least the sequester. The sequester was the most recent, and the only one where the Conservatives didn’t take the bait and fall for the trap, but I’ve seen something recently that scares me much more.
I saw a news report this morning with an interview with the head of the FAA, speaking about why he decided to allow small knives, bats, lacrosse sticks and golf clubs on planes. It didn’t make much sense to me, and with a father who made his career as a pilot, it hits pretty close to home.
His given reasoning was that he wants the TSA, who is known to be wildly incompetent, to be able to focus entirely on what is potentially the biggest known and visible threat of bombs on planes. He says that he wants his screeners to be able to focus completely on this issue, and not worry about anything else.
But was there ever an outcry of people wondering why they couldn’t take knives on planes in this post-9/11 world of travel? I’ve heard shampoo, laptops and the shoes, but everyone pretty much understood why knives would be an issue.
As the head of the FAA, it’s a given that he also isn’t stupid…maybe not bright, but definitely too educated and accomplished to be called stupid. So if we follow that thread, what is the motivation to allow these weapons back on planes, even though the flight attendants and pilots unions are very vocally against the idea?
As my friend Terry pointed out, and it makes quite a bit of sense to me now, it’s most likely political posturing, and Obama doing what he does best and setting the Conservatives up to take a fall.
The Conservatives finally banded together, didn’t take Obama’s bait and allowed the sequestration to happen, knowing full well that it wouldn’t touch much of their constituency, and in the end the roughly $2 billion it saves is only a small drop in the pan for our enormous government waste and budget.
But how can Obama turn that back around on them and make everything look as if it were their fault, jabbing another knife in the side of Conservatives while they’re on the ropes? Catastrophe.
It was Obama’s close friend and ally Rahm Emanuel said “you can never let a good tragedy go to waste,” but is he sinister enough to manufacture, or at least set up the events for a tragedy?
Let’s look at the knock-on effects here; Congress allowed the sequestration to happen, because it was Obama’s idea in the first place, he refused to cut spending as he promised and instead grew the government waste even further, and wasn’t willing to put addressing government waste on the table whatsoever.
It is already very public knowledge that his administration has been consciously and purposely making cuts that were the most visible, so that even while most of the Conservative base are working individuals who aren’t affected much by the sequestration cuts to public assistance, they can see the false effects that he’s manufacturing.
Now the TSA is saying they don’t have the resources or bandwidth to properly check everyone and everything, and even though knives, bats, lacrosse sticks and the like are not hard to pick out, and are picked up by metal detectors that require no effort or thought by TSA workers to find, it’s the red herring that they’re using as an excuse.
What happens next? We know that we have a world full of lunatics, and a lot of them who want nothing more than to see America fall. We know that there are “lone wolves” out there, even in our own country, who don’t need orders from Al Qaeda or any other terrorist group to try and act on these wishes.
I sincerely hope that both Terry and I are drinking crazy sauce, but the next events that we see are one, or even worse a group of these crazies using these now TSA-approved weapons to bring down a plane in a terrorist act, made possible by political posturing and a government wishing to destroy another party rather than help the country.
As soon as that happens, what does Obama and his administration gain? Being able to pin the blame on Conservatives and sequestration taking away the TSA budget. Please tell me we’re not the only ones who see this.
When you see something that doesn’t make sense, or you hear someone in power say something that goes against common sense, play the “stupid or liar” game, and analyze the 5 why’s and knock-on effects for yourself. When politicians are more concerned with politics and posturing than the fate of our nation, we’re all in trouble.

A friend of mine told me last week that as he read my blogs, he could imagine me yelling at the computer as I typed. That’s not exactly what I’m going for, but pretty funny from a guy who knows me so well. The things that I see in the news these days tend to get me a little heated, and it seems to come out when I write about those stories that get me worked up enough to put my feelings about them out there.
There are a few events which happened last week and are making the rounds in the news now, and there is one most of all that resonates enough with me to want to talk about…and hopefully you’re starting to learn my point of view enough to come along on this ride with me.
I’ve had an idea for quite a few years now, as I watch the world and America especially, fracture itself on purpose in the name of fairness and equality. I’ve watched as people have tried as hard as they can to put themselves into every sub-group possible, in an attempt to find their
“identity,” but only succeeding in bringing them further and further from the rest of society, mankind, or people in general.
My idea is quite simple: As long as you define yourself by race, color, or creed, you will always be defined by your race, color, or creed.
It sounds innocent enough, but stay with me here; at one time, we were all just people. It was us against the world, struggling to keep the tribe alive long enough to pass on the bloodline and stay in existence, making our own footprint on this world.
People began to multiply, immigrated to different parts of the world and began their own tribes. At one point, many of these tribes came together to form this great country that we call The United States of America.
I have Italian, Nordic and other types of blood running through my veins, but I’m not an Italian/Nordic/etc, I am an American. My wife was born in Taiwan and raised in Texas, but she’s not a Taiwanese/American, she is an American. As I said on “For Crying Out Loud” last week, my kids are “one part olive oil, one part soy sauce,” but they’re not Italian/Taiwanese-Americans….they are American.
But for some reason, in the last generation our society has strayed as far as they can from that point of pride, of calling yourself an American and instead putting as many hyphenations on the greatest of compliments as it takes to completely negate the “American” part of it.
When we were all just humans, we worked together as a tribe, to hunt and provide, to protect and care, to keep ourselves alive. When we were all Americans, by the same token we all worked together to build this nation into the greatest civilization in the history of man. We all pitched in an picked up trash if we walked past it, mowed our lawns, worked hard and brought home a paycheck, raised our kids to be fine, upstanding citizens, and the tribe was well.
What do we have now? As people began to stray from our national identity, our society followed. As people dropped the “American” from their only description, flags stopped appearing in so many yards, graffiti went up on every wall and overpass sign, and the trash stopped getting picked up.
As the pride in our society diminished, and it became more about “me and mine” rather than “us and ours,” education began to falter; the home structure is on the ropes, with the traditional family being a minority rather than a majority these days. As our American brothers and sisters cared more about other details than being American, we let our society slip away.
We used to have an “ask what you can do for your country” mentality, even when dealing with our own races and/or cultures back in the day. It wasn’t “we feel alienated because there is one fewer of mine than yours in political office,” or “not enough of a certain race represented in small business owners.” It was the opposite; instead of, “what is America doing for me,” it was “look at what we’re doing for America.”
Proud Irish and Italian immigrants building the skyscrapers in New York. All black/Irish/Italian units like the Red Tails or the Fighting 69, doing their part for this great country and using it as a point of pride, showing just how damned proud they were to be American; they used those points of pride to show just how much they contributed and belonged to this great society, rather than trying to fracture away from it and turn it into something it wasn’t.
So what got me onto this subject today? Well, for one, I watched Django Unchained last week…..wow. After announcing on “FCOL” last week that we hadn’t received the viewer from SAG, a friend sent me his copy, and all I can say is wow. Good job Tarantino, it makes Roots look soft.
There are a few news stories that followed, interestingly enough, about a man slapping a toddler on an airplane and another man in a hospital saying only white nurses could touch his newborn.
I think that both of these events, and many other like them, are a result of people having this “you vs me” mentality, and I’m not saying that IT is a result of our fractioning and trying to create our own identities based on anything that sets us apart, but I feel that the fracturing is making it worse, more apparent, and more widespread.
People are inherently jealous of those who have what they don’t, and that can be money, special attention, fame, or anything that a certain person wants. We used to have a society where people would say, “wow, that person has everything I want, I’m going to work hard and get it myself.”
We’ve now changed, I believe due to this fractioning and loss of American identity to a “look at what that jerk has, why do they deserve it and not me, I’m going to ruin their life and/or take it from them.”
By calling ourselves everything under the sun besides American, by flying the flag in our car/yard of the country we LEFT for America and a better life instead of the American flag, by creating our own identity rather than that of our countrymen and brethren, we have taken ourselves out of a society that works together toward a common goal to a narcissistic one who only believes that the group of people with whom they can identify should be happy and successful.
Think I’m getting a little overboard with this? Look at the ACLU and the cases it has been fighting. Look at the cases involving Atheists and, instead of giving them a better leg up, the fight is completely about taking the First Amendment rights away from the majority of this country, which is religious, and not allowing them to express themselves.
It is not a fight about trying to make the country, or even Atheists better, but rather destroying the livelihood and ability to express themselves away from people who are devoutly religious and attribute and success or happiness in life to their creator. It’s not “i’m going to work hard to better myself,” but rather “I’m going to work to take what’s important away from you.”
Long story short, I feel that we are starting to fall way too far from the apple tree. We’re all on “Team Human”, and as soon as we started going away from that, countries formed, boundaries were made and wars were waged.
Even within our own country, we have begun to move away from “Team America,” and as we’ve done that, our society has begun to shake at its foundations. It would take much more than I can imagine to get us back to the “Team People” mentality, and as a sheepdog I do believe that there are evil people in the world who need to be forcibly removed, but maybe we can get back to the “Team America” way of living.
But how can we do that? By just paying attention to what you’re doing, every day, all the time. We involve so many biases and judgements in our daily life, based on things that are so engrained in society today that we do it without thinking.
Pay attention to everything going on around you; understand that Republican, Democrat, Liberal or Leftist, we are all American. Our politicians have fallen into this trap and become so polarized that they are completely ineffective, and have further divided our nation into “red” and “blue” states.
Don’t fall into that trap; whenever you listen to the news, meet someone new, take your kids to school, or whatever you’re doing in life, remember, above everything else, you are an American, we live in the greatest society known to man, and we are letting it slip through our fingers. Only by coming together on the common goal of keeping our society at the top of the pack can we ever succeed.
I was giving my son a bath after getting back from the gym this morning, and as my iPod was on shuffle, “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson came on. I hadn’t heard this song in some years, but it was great timing given what was already going on in my head and in the news.
If you, like me, haven’t heard that song in quite awhile, go put it on. I’ll be here when you’re finished, but really listen. And if you feel bashful about it, or that it challenges your masculinity in some way listening to Michael Jackson, remember that this Green Beret with shrapnel still in his body from Afghanistan has been listening to it all morning on repeat….I’m not saying i’m the toughest or most masculine guy in the world, but I’m closer to the top half than the bottom, and I love that damn song.
We’ve been spending too much time looking to inept politicians or others in charge to make the changes that we need to get back on the right track as a society, but they have more than proven themselves incapable (or unwilling) to do it for us.
If we want to make a change and get our country back on track, to be the same great nation for our kids as it was for us and our parents, it all starts with us. It starts with me, it starts with you, it starts with all of us together.
Take a long hard look in the mirror, if you have kids, take a long hard look at them. If you, like me, believe that we going in the wrong direction in society, don’t wait for someone else to change it, start making a change with the man in the mirror.
Those of you who know me and/or have read my memoir, “Love Me When I’m Gone,” know my story, how I ended up here in Los Angeles, and how unhappy this place makes me. For those of you who don’t, here’s a quick refresher:
I was born in Florida, lived there for a few years until Air Florida went under and my dad got a job flying for Southwest Airlines. I spent the next 20+ years of my life in the state that God blessed, Texas, and only left when it was required for my service in the Army (I left for Infantry Basic Training at Ft. Benning, GA, a month after I graduated from Texas State University).
When it was time to leave the Army I was living in Colorado with the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), with nothing really holding me there except the Army and my brothers, but Cindy had an entire acting career flourishing here in Los Angeles. I moved here with some hesitation, but with most of the opportunities for us being here, it was the smart move….so I thought.
At this point in my life I’ve lived in Texas, France, Germany, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and California, and have spent significant time in Italy, Austria, Africa, Afghanistan and Iraq. I’d say I have a pretty well-rounded view of the world at large, and have recently found that although I consider the United States of America the greatest nation our civilization has every known, I believe that California is determined to make itself the worst, veritably unlivable for any decent, hard-working, tax-paying, law-abiding citizens, and only welcoming criminals, welfare cases and politicians, catering to their every need and alienating the productive.
At first we had to live here because of my wife’s profession; you don’t have to know much about movies to know what Hollywood is. But, the true fact of the matter is that the only real accomplishment that the inept California politicians can really put to their name is that they successfully ran Hollywood out of Hollywood.
You see, even though movie stars are the most liberal and avid supporters of President Obama and his ever-increasing taxes, when it comes time for them to put their money where their mouth is, they run immediately for the state that is giving them the highest tax breaks; because California actually practices the ultra-leftist policies which they publicly support, it cannot afford to give any of the tax breaks that other states and nations can.
Because of my wife’s profession we have a large number of very good friends who are movie and TV producers, stunt men, actors, writers, etc. The majority of them have second homes or condos in places like Toronto, New Orleans or Puerto Rico now because they are only in Los Angeles for casting…once it’s time to film (and hire crew and pay taxes), they are off before the first check is drafted.
As a true conservative, this has infuriated me to no end; I heard a saying once that “Democrats are lawyers, Republicans are Businessmen.” I never put much faith in that saying until I moved here, and found that California politicians make the absolute wrong business decision at every single chance, and now I whole heartedly believe it.
This has led to a domino-effect in the State, and it’s getting worse and worse. As the movies began to leave and take hundreds of millions of dollars a year away from the state (not just the cost of the movie, but the hotels the actors and crew stay in, meals they eat, gas they pump, booze they drink, etc), the state started to feel the squeeze. As I’ve learned, large, poorly-run organizations like California can’t stand the squeeze for very long, and have to find someone else to pass it along to.
So California decided to put the squeeze on every person who actually earned a paycheck…..which was already less than 50% of the state. California has more unemployed/welfare recipients than workers, and so instead of changing this dynamic, they chose to just squeeze the workers and corporations which hire them.
As a knock-on effect, many corporations, smart enough to be truly forward-thinking and know what the outcome of this would be, left the state. Smart states like Texas, rated the best state in the nation for business for several years running, have been actively courting these businesses, successfully landing most of them.
Governor Jerry Brown, an ultra-liberal, proven inept democrat who is helping to sink the California ship, was quoted last week as saying to Governor Rick Perry that “people will always go where things happened in the past” about their state woo-ing California businesses. Is it no surprise that he doesn’t understand that there’s a difference between where things USED to happen and where they ARE happening today?
But, we stayed. As the squeeze of taxes forced more businesses and people forming the tax base out of the state, the social services started to decline. As the place with some of the highest taxes in the nation, we have arguably the worse police and fire departments that are constantly being de-funded and outsourced (a drunk driver ran into Adam Carolla’s house a few weeks ago and the LAPD wouldn’t even send a cruiser out….to a man who pays a huge amount of taxes every year and employs quite a few people, no service whatsoever).
The public school system has become virtually unusable, only acceptable to people who’s children don’t speak English, who are happy because it’s better than the 3rd world nation they immigrated from, and decide daily that rather than strive for excellence, the school system should be dumbed down and forced to accommodate their kids who aren’t used to education and who’s parents offer no assistance.
A bill was proposed in California last year that would have made it easier for immigrants here on student visas who graduated from California Universities to be granted easier access to visa’s and green cards if they received high-science degrees like medicine, engineering, physics, etc. It was struck down by the ultra-leftists who said it would be too much of an advantage over others who would come here exclusively for welfare and free benefits. Seriously, the wrong choice at every turn.
In spite of all this, in spite of crime and unemployment spiking, the home prices staying at a median prices around $500,000 even though unemployment is above 20% and median income is below $50,000, we stayed. But the California Leftist politicians have outdone themselves, and if they pass the most recent bill proposed, this camels back is about to break.
California has proposed some the most draconian, leftist, un-American gun legislation that our nation has ever seen. It seems as if they completely forgot that The Second Amendment grants American citizens the right to bear arms, even though it is clearly stated that right “shall not be infringed.”
I don’t have time to explain it without getting extremely angry and possibly turning into the Hulk; don’t take my word for how far off the beaten path these lunatics have gone, read it here:
Sorry California, but that’s the final straw. Governor Rick Perry, if this legislation passes, you’ve got another family of Texans coming back home to the promised land. I am a man of quotes, and one of my favorites is that “anyone who forgets history is doomed to repeat it.”
If you look into the not-so-distant history, look into the timeline of what has happened every single time a populace has been disarmed. Shortly after Turkey disarmed its citizens, the Armenians were massacred in an act of genocide. The same happened in China, Cambodia, Nazi Germany, Africa, and every known instance of a populace being disarmed. The left can call me crazy and say i’m overreacting, but all I’m doing is pointing to history. As a fan of statistical analysis, I love the idea that on a long enough timeline, you can find the trends in anything…….
This is the final straw California, and I know my family won’t be alone. I know that you won’t be going through South Central Los Angeles, Oakland or Fresno taking guns away from the gang bangers and criminals. You’ll come to take them from the law-abiding citizens who you don’t think will put up a fight, while at the same time you leave the criminals armed and reduce your Police force to the point where we can’t expect any assistance, even at a lengthy response time (it took 5 days after our house was robbed to get a detective out here).
You will soon reap what you sow, and the hole you are digging is getting extremely deep. If you pass this law, it will be the sign that there is no saving you, and with an ROI (return on investment) so low for what we pay in the highest tax rates in the nation, you’ve been pushing it for a long time.
Even Joe Biden has been caught on camera admitting that these gun laws WILL NOT prevent another Sandy Hook, WILL NOT reduce violent crimes, and WILL NOT reduce gun-associated homicides or violent crimes. If you are trying to get the citizens who pay your tax base and keep this state running to leave, there are much easier ways to do it.
Don’t believe me, listen to good old Joe here:
The ball’s in your court; since the entire political class and most of the lunatics in this state are Dems and Leftists, I’m pretty sure I know what will happen if it comes up for a vote. Thankfully I have a great friend in Austin who has a house ready for my family and I to move in. Your move California.
As I tend to do from time to time, I’d like to start here with a few quotes which I think are applicable:
“He who forgets the past is doomed to repeat it.”
“One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”
The issue at hand that has me all hot and bothered today is actually a conglomeration of several, so please bear with me, I’ll tie it all together at some point. For reasons that are becoming clearer every day, the media is neglecting to connect these, so hopefully I can do that for you here.
My first issue is with the sending of weapons, F-16’s and tanks to the Muslim Brotherhood which runs the vocally hateful- of-Americans, rapidly de-stabilizing chaos that is Egypt. It seems that regardless of the trillions of dollars of debt that we’re in, masses of taxpaying Americans (notice the qualifier there) up in arms about our growing debt, and despite the fact that this government is extremely vocal about their distaste for and distrust of America, we are sending hugely expensive weapons, and fighters planes their way…..as a sign of gratitude for standing against us?
My second issue, and I’ll tie these together shortly, is with our lack of support for the Syrian freedom fighters/rebels/terrorists, labeled as one of the above, depending on who you talk to (you can include the Bahrain fighters/rebels/terrorists who we did nothing to help as well). The only group in trouble RIGHT NOW in Egypt is the government; it’s pretty widely recognized that their election, bringing the Muslim Brotherhood of bloodthirsty Salafists into power, was a sham, made readily apparent by the massive protests and claims of election fraud that came the day after the announcement they had won.
But Syrian rebels are being massacred by their own government daily, as has been going on in Bahrain. When was the last time you heard about that in the main stream media? Check out former CNN Journalist Amber Lyon on the Joe Rogan Podcast for some really scary stuff about that and how she was censored and fired for trying to tell people about the Bahrain tragedies. Yet we act as if they need no help? But Egypt does? Why?
I understand Geopolitics about as much as a guy can without working in a think-tank in DC, and a lot of this has me truly perplexed. Adam Carolla has a bit he calls “stupid or liar,” and I don’t know which one to call whatever yes-man Generals advising the president right now, but either one terrifies me.
You see, this is one of the ways that terrorists are born. The Syrian people, at large, have been rather ambivalent to us. Iraq didn’t spill over into their country too much, we’re haven’t labeled them as enemies as we have with Iran (who’s younger generation actually loves Americans and the West…another thing you won’t see/hear in the main stream media), and so they never really had an all-out agenda towards us as many do and/or have.
But they do now. You see, even though most of the world will get mad at us for acting as “the world’s policemen” when they DON’T need it, they get very bent out of shape if we don’t intervene when they DO need it, and right now, they need it. And most likely our biggest problem is that our enemies who see that need will supply it, and in so doing, they will multiply our enemies.
The original decision to NOT put arms into the hands of the Syrian rebels was supposedly made because of fear that they would fall into the hands of our enemies, as happened in Libya, and would be turned against us. The actuality of what is happening is much, much worse.
Many of our enemies don’t have the conventional, large-scale armies to take us on head-to-head, or can’t risk the global political fallout of doing so, and have instead been playing the cat-and-mouse game of behind the scenes warfare and proxy wars that we started in Afghanistan vs Russia (by arming rebel groups or fighting us directly in the theatres in which we are engaged ie Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, Pakistan). I saw this first hand in Iraq and Africa, and althought many on the Left tried to play it off as conservative propoganda, I’m telling you from experience it’s real.
So in Syria, you have a conglomeration of enemies of America who saw our lack of involvement, used it as a “call to arms” for jihad, and are arming and fighting alongside the rebels. When, and there is no “if” here, the Assad regime falls, all of his weapons, from one of the most heavily fortified Army’s in the middle east, will go to those rebels, who will have a severe hatred of America. But why?
Because as we’re sending them food packages and a few bandages, we’re sending F-16’s, tanks and arms to Egypt. We are sending weapons to a government who openly mocks us, who is a step away from either folding or turning those same arms on their own people, while the rebels in Syria who are fighting for their homes and lives are massacred due to being severely outgunned.
But now the tides have turned, and those weapons and men that we should have supplied are being supplied by our enemies, along with a healthy dose of Anti-American indocrination. And from a guy who can tell you from experience, the bonds formed by fighting shoulder to shoulder with someone are stronger than any other in humanity, and they’re fighting with our enemies.
So let’s focus on Egypt again….what else could be bad about arming them with fighters and tanks? Hmmmm….what in the world would Egypt want to do with heavy weaponry like that. Who is our only lifelong ally in that region, one with whom Egypt shares a border, and the Muslim Brotherhood vehemently promises to rain fire upon? Israel. And if you don’t think those weapons are going to be used against our only true allies in the Middle East, the Israelis, I have to play the Carolla “stupid or liar” game with you.
I’m getting to the point at which I’m going to start breaking down into name-calling and insults, which is my cue to stop. Please share this, listen to Amber Lyon on the Joe Rogan podcast, and pay attention to many different news sources. The line that you’re getting from the White House is not accurate, and I would even go so far as to say that the Generals who are advising the President are either being completely ignored, or they are yes men who should be tried on charges of treason for the horrible decisions that they’re allowing to be made.
It is a long-held quote and truth that we know in Special Forces, one that I quoted at the start. I’ll close by quoting it again. Pay attention to what’s going on in the world around you, and decide on your own, not via the White House press secretary, what is what. And I remind you that: “One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.”
