Niger, Africa

(2006)

On the DoD list of countries in the world Niger was listed as the poorest (not including failed states such as Afghanistan).  A government so corrupt that Ghadafi stopped his funding when he realized most of his donations where going to the pockets of the government, and virtually nothing was going to the people.

Niger changed the way I will forever see people and life; the government has since changed via a coup not long after our deployment, but the people greatly effected me with their resolve and ability to find happiness in any situation.  The Africa chapter in Love Me When I’m Gone reflects these feelings, as it is the longest because it had one of the deepest impacts on my life of all of my deployments.
